Food, Folks, and Fun, without the McDonalds

I'm loving it here in college.

The dining halls have a lot of great food, and it's all-you-can-eat. The only downside is that the closest Dining Commons, Berkshire, isn't open until 10:30 am, when I'm in class. So I have to walk an extra 5 minutes to Hampshire. There are two other dining commons, which I probably will only eat at if I have classes way out near Franklin or Worcester DC.

But, we're compSci people, and we don't always eat during regular hours. Sometimes, our 8-player Starcraft matches get in the way of normal dining hours. Fortunately, there's Bruno's Pizza, Wings, and Athena's Pizza for ordering from. And the campus convenience store, which sells 12-packs of soda, is open until midnight.

Everyone on the floor is a gamer. There are often more players than will fit in one Starcraft game (we're working on getting Warcraft III for everyone on the hall before playing a match). My roommate, Huan, is one of the most skilled Zerg players I've met. He frequently butts heads with Adam, who is equally adept at all 3 races. Adam and I currently are also playing Diablo II with Adrian, who is actually more skilled at Warcraft III, especially on Battle.net. I routinely get my ass kicked by these three heavyweights. Leonard would trounce me as well, if his computer would stop crashing in the middle of a game. As would our resident assistant, Z, if his Windows emulator (he's on a laptop with Gentoo Linux) would stop causing lag for everyone else. Another major game we play is Doom 3, which, unfortunately for id software, has been cracked at least 3 times. The only people on the hall who don't play Doom 3 are Alex, who has a tablet PC (although we have made jokes about playing Doom 3 with a stylus), and Jordan, who has a Mac G4 (it's rumored that he's the only one on campus with a Mac).

More to come from 15th Floor Wahington House!
